Job Description

Your new purpose (in a nutshell)

You will provide technical leadership and assurance for the solution design of key IT initiatives and BAU for core IPF systems.

You will support the competency manager in producing and ensuring adherence to agreed roadmaps, validating that they are in line with design principles and policies. You will be responsible for ensuring that the end to end design is robust, documented and developed to best practise standards. You will be accountable for the Solution Design within core systems, providing support throughout the delivery cycle of both projects and BAU change. You will also manage, challenge and coordinate the design activity of third party suppliers, acting as technical product owner where required.      

What you will be accountable for

  • Define the detailed design and architecture for the core IPF systems in line with the Enterprise policies and standards
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of baseline design documentation of the core IPF systems
  • Working with third parties, design and implement appropriate development frameworks and governance to standardise and accelerate the delivery of the core products solutions
  • Development and maintenance of a technical backlog and technology roadmap for the core products systems
  • Challenge and review third party deliverables (e.g. designs, specifications, software)
  • Mentoring and providing direction to team members and external third party suppliers
  • Provide oversight and input to the effective execution of the agreed SDLC, for example as a technical product owner in a scrum team
  • Form part of Technical Design Assurance/ Authority to ensure appropriate governance and project adherence
  • Ensure that software is delivered in line with designs and any applicable software development standards (quality assurance)
  • Lead the development of transition plans from the existing legacy architecture to the target architecture
  • Drive the effective engagement with relevant project work streams to ensure that software is delivered on time and to agreed quality
  • Provide expertise to support continuous improvement initiatives to the core IPF system

What skills will you have?

Qualifications: Degree or equivalent level of qualification, preferably in an IT-related discipline

Skills: Translating design into actionable plans and roadmaps

  • Agile development techniques (SCRUM, KANBAN etc.)
  • The ability to matrix manage 3rdparties and coach individuals to achieve set objectives
  • Effective communication skills – including the ability to communicate complex design to other Technical and non-technical team members
  • Effective liaison with a globally dispersed team and management (where English may not be a first language)

Knowledge: Database design, Design Patterns, Service Oriented Architecture

  • Software development cycles and approaches
  • Transact-SQL, SQL Server - including legacy versions
  • .net including web services (REST, SOAP)

Experience: Ideally the candidate will have Software development experience

  • API Driven development and systems integration projects
  • Experience of both .net and java developments and technologies
  • Experience in hands on design and development of custom solutions
  • Technically aware, having had exposure to a variety of technologies
  • Experience in the modernisation of legacy systems
  • Experience of driving 3rd Party development teams
